.htaccess 301 Redirect Trick
Often times when I redesign a website I have several things I need to look at. For starters the content and the URL structures. Recently I redesigned the TrendyHost.com website for optimization and conversions. I did this because we were lacking in a few area on our old website and that needed to be addressed and it was with the redesign.
One problem I faced was the URL structure and several outdated pages.
One solution was our .htaccess file. In that file I had to create redirects from old pages to the new to keep search engines happy and so that if a potential website visitor lands on that page they will see the updated version of that page. After about 5 pages of redirects I am now almost complete with the SEO side of the site and will begin adding more and more content to our site for our customers and browsers. We enjoy writing useful content that helps our customers in some sort of way.
In this post I want to share a small .htaccess trick which I used quite a bit when redesigning and changing the URLs of our company website. We changed the URLs for a better SEO advantage and we changed the design for more customer conversions. As a business these things are important. Especially an online business being that SEO is very important to the success of any online business.
Ok, so now on to that .htaccess trick.
Bad URL: http://www.yourdomain.com/p9876d.php
Good URL: http://www.yourdomain.com/keyword-here.php
If you decided to go from bad URL to good URL then you will open your .htaccess file and add this inside:
Redirect 301 /p9876d.php http://www.yourdomain.com/keyword-here.php[/note]
After you save your .htaccess file go to your browser and check that the old URL will redirect you to the new URL and if it does work then you can move on to the next URL. If you just change your URLs and not redirect with a 301 Google will show 404 not found and will hurt your website in rankings. Also, your potential visitors or customers will visit the URL from a search engine and end up on a 404 page which does not look good on you or your company.
Using these small tricks will make for better website rankings and better control of your website. If you have any questions feel free to comment or contact support. We also hope that you enjoy the new look of TrendyHost.com
How to Force www in URL Using .htaccess
How to Force WWW in a URL
I hear a lot about Google and duplicate content as well as Google Canonical problems. That is, when you have your site accessible both under yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com. To avoid the issue of duplicate content you can use the following lines in your .htaccess file to force only the www version of your web site instead of the non-www version. Accessing them both can be a problem in Google’s opinion.
The .htaccess code to force www:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [L,R=301]
The above code will cause your URL’s to always show the www version of your website. It is a great idea to do this. You can also force the non-www versionby placing the following code into the .htaccess instead of the above code.
The .htaccess code for non-www:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [L,R=301]

We Support the SPCA of Tennessee
Today we completed the SPCATN.org website. We donated our time and services to the SPCA of Tennessee because we believe in their cause.
The SPCA rescues animals from being euthanized by finding them a home and taking them in. The lady who runs the SPCA for Tennessee is just an absolute sweet lady who really cares so much about animals and does this for no benefit of her own each and every day. We thought we would help her by donating a brand new website so that she can better serve the animals she serves in Tennessee. She can now list them on the site and share with the surrounding area what animals are available for adoption.
TrendyHost is happy to help but you too can make a difference by donating to their organization from their website at http://www.spcatn.org.
Every dollar helps and your donation is always appreciated.

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did. Love the atmosphere. I may go sky diving now.

Did you know that you too can start a blog? Yes, you can! TrendyHost.com offers blog hosting for bloggers who want an easy solution to an online self hosted blog. Yes, we really do. You can be online in less than 5 minutes. Lets not get way too a head of ourselves here. Lets look at the facts.
There are millions of blogs on the world wide web on many topics and most bloggers blog because they either love to write so much that they want to blog and share their writing creations to the world of online readers or they love something so much it inspires them to blog or write about it online but once again sharing it with the world of online readers.
As a blogger myself I know how addictive it can get. Yes, it can get addictive.
Did you know…you can make money with your blog? Yes, of course you can make money with your blog. Blogging may be inspired by an online journal or diary but it is also a way to write content to place relevant ads for an online income. From my experience blogging for a small income from Google Ads is an added benefit to writing content and publishing it. I have had lots of luck creating niche sites and placing content on these sites structured by a blogging platform called WordPress which is 100% free to anyone and is available here at TrendyHost with the click of a button. That pretty much means that you can install a WordPress blog with the click of a button. It is that easy!
You do not have to be a writer to own a blog. I am definitely not a writer and I am sure if you scour through the many blog posts here in my company blog you will find many errors but I do try to keep that to a minimum for reputation sake. Blogging can be really fun if you put your heart to it and actually give it your personality. If your personality is slang or shortened words then write in that style. It is your blog.
You can literally be set up with a blog in less than 5 minutes here at TrendyHost. Why not give it a try. You may actually like it. If you would like more information on our blog hosting service click the link here. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have. State of TrendyHost.com
It has been several days since any posts have been made to our company blog and I thought that today would be a great day to let the world know that we are still here just very busy making things happen for our current customers and potential customers.
There are several things going on. One of the most exciting changes is our company ownership. We are now owned by Athena Broadband a company offering broadband internet services to Middle Tennessee which is an EnterSource company operated in Shelbyville, TN.

Web Hosting Review – Max Z
Today I walk into my office to get started for the day and the first email was from a current customer who is 100% happy with the speed of our servers as well as our customer support. It is a pleasure to serve and to provide the best possible quality when it comes to your web hosting.
I’ve had a fairly bad experience with hosting over the past couple of years. From premium VPS servers, to multiple ip hosting. I began to think they were all alike – slow servers and irritable customer service reps. It had cost me a lot of revenue, many hours of time and a lot of frustration due to my sites being down so much.
That was until I tried TrendyHost. I honestly can’t believe their amazing customer service. They transferred all of my sites over without me having to do any of the work (and believe me that’s a hassle). They have fixed any problems I have had with sites within 24 hours.
The uptime has been 100%, and the blazing speeds of my sites loading time is quite surprising. It has way out performed my previous VPS.
And this only cost me a penny for the first month!
You would never expect such level of service from shared hosting. I’m thoroughly impressed, and would recommend to all.
When we receive emails like this we really smile and it makes us happy that we have made someone happy with our service. It says a lot about our company and our level of commitment. We look forward to many years of serving every one of our current and future customers.
If you would like your review featured on our website please email us at feedback@trendyhost.com with your testimonial. If you have any feedback for us good or bad we welcome it. We want to better serve you so please feel free to let us know how we can accomplish better service for you.
Happy Holidays,

Your Security While Shopping – Are you protected?
It is common for us to just find the site, choose the product and make the purchase. I know that is how I like it but I am more concerned now than ever because of the holidays. I have seen and heard of people having some horrible experiences while shopping online during the last few days. People are shopping like crazy and I have had a few pleasurable purchases myself but I am safe. Are you?
More and more people are becoming victims of identity theft or stolen credit card numbers etc. It is important that you are protected and here are a few ways to know you are protected:
- Look for the SSL Certificate.
- Look for the green or blue bar in the address bar.
- Shop with sites that are trusted and that you are familiar with.
Looking for an SSL certificate is not at all hard. Most online stores have certificates on the footer of their page. You will see things like Verisign, Comodo and more. Look for this then move to the second part for your protection. Note* Not all sites who are protected will have these logos or certificates on their web pages. See #2 for another way to know that they are protected with SSL.
Look in the address bar where you typed in the URL of the online store you are shopping on. If it is gree, or blue then that is a good sign. If red then I would stay far away. Our site is a great example. Our static pages at www.trendyhost.com do not show SSL because there is no need for it when there are no login pages or personal data but if you click onto our billing section of the site you will notice SSL. There will be a green https in the address bar letting you know that you are secure. We really care about your safety and that is why we are protected with SSL.
Shopping online can be a great experience but it can also turn into a NIGHTMARE! I have had issues before and want to warn you about some possible issues. Be safe never give too much info. I suggest using a Paypal.com account with your credit card if the option is there to keep your information safe and secure. Also, the fact that there are people out there looking to take your money in return for NOTHING should have you concerned as well. Watch out for good reviews and positive vibes. Look for trust or a since of establishment on an online retailers website.
A great way to look into an online retailer is searching in Google. Go way past the first few pages and skim looking for any sign of an issue. Read all you can to keep your hard earned money out of the hands of thieves.
Finally ask questions. Sometimes asking a question can let you know how support will be with an online product. You will know how fast they responded to your inquiry as well as the fact that they even responded. If they do not respond then chances are the site is just sitting there and left to float in cyber space.
The point is people you are human and you want to shop. I just want to put it in your head to be careful and watch for the signs. Shop happy and no regrets later.
